April 28th Strategic Teaching
"Strategic Teaching” is a model with the tools for teachers to select the right research-based strategy for each of their lessons. Research and practice of teachers have created, modified, and redefined hundreds of new techniques for the classroom. This module will introduce the new teacher to the framework for selecting the right strategy to meet high standards and meet the needs of diverse learners.
April 21st Assessment for Learning and Grading
Many teachers enter the classroom with no formal training in assessing the achievement of their students, and consequently they rely on “traditions” that often have little relationship to actual student learning. The traditional point system so often used for scoring lead to inaccurate conclusions about a student’s achievement. This module will provide the teacher with tools that will inform their instruction, assist students in tracking their learning, and will provide an accurate portrayal of the student’s progress.
February 8 How to Manage Students in the Classroom
This workshop will give participants some ideas and time to think about different ways to train those "monkeys" you teach every day! The evening will be divided up into 3 sections. We will look at expectations and rules, what to do when rules aren't followed and what to do when they are. We will also take a look at several models and decide what we like and what we don't. Come to learn and discuss ways to make your "monkey training" successful! Bring a list of your rules and/or expectations from your classroom. See you there!
March 4th Differentiation made Easy—It Doesn’t Have to be Overwhelming
DI is an often heard ‘buzz word’ in educational circles, and the thought of effectively differentiating instruction overwhelms and intimidates many educators. This interactive workshop will focus on ways to differentiate without the need to make numerous lesson plans each day for students. Practical strategies and ideas will be shared.
March 9 Engaged Teachers, Engaged Students: Where One Goes the other will Follow
How can teachers engage all students and at all levels of Response to Intervention? While the students of the 21st century present a unique challenge to all educators, traditional instruction is not always effective. As a result, educators may find themselves frustrated and seeking better methodologies to reach all types of learners. This interactive workshop will provide easy to implement classroom strategies that will help motivate, engage, and differentiate instruction for all students.
