Description: In this two part workshop, teachers will explore the development of data and probability in grades 3-8.  It will show teachers how to engage students in exploring and extending these concepts through activities that build on students' earlier experiences with data.  The activities will focus on formulating questions and collecting data through a variety of methods, including observations, surveys, and experiments.  In the workshop, we will demonstrate how to display the data and how to describe the distribution of data sets by looking at measures of center as well as gaps and outliers.  Part 2, teachers will revisit ideas presented in Part 1 and will then explore the different counting techniques and simple probability to use in inquiry science and mathematics.  The Fundamental Counting Principle, permutations, and combinations are part of the presentation.  Each participant will receive their own copy of NCTM's Navigating Through Data Analysis and Probability Grader 3-5 of 6-8.  NEW
