Instructional Support Services
by Anne Shadwick
• Professional development activities for teachers and paraprofessionals, both on-site and in our staff development center. Usually there are at least 30-40 opportunities provided each semester. The schedules of classes align closely to National Staff Development standards. Member fees are minimal—usually $25.
• Each year, nationally known speakers do workshops and institutes at the Center.
• Hosted by SCEE, the Ozark Rural Systemic Initiative will spend up to $700,000 per year to assist ten districts in the implementation of science/math reform. Funded by a National Science Foundation $3.5 million grant, professional development sessions are free to districts in the Ozark Rural Systemic Initiative (ORSI). For a minimal fee, these sessions are also made available to other SCEE member district teachers who are involved in math/science reform.
• SCEE is working with Missouri Southern StateUniversity(MSSU) and College of the Ozarks (C of O) on two three-year programs to enhance content knowledge of history teachers. The Documenting America's Past project funds reading seminars and summer institutes for SCEE member district American history teachers. A second grant project, Echoes of the Past, also provides content knowledge and sends participants to historical sites for summer institutes.
• Professional development and consultation services for instructors and paraprofessionals involved in Title programs
