School districts will have an opportunity to bring teams of 5-7 members (one must be an administrator) to Southwest Center to learn from the experts!
Presenter: Tammy Heflebower, VP Marzano Research Lab & Associate
The Marzano Academy is designed to bring together a consortium of school teams that take school improvement seriously, and have made a commitment to share their learning and experiences with others at their school sites. A critical goal is to help schools use what works in order to gain expertise and consistency, while also respecting teacher creativity and diversity.
Teams will participate in three 2-day sessions scheduled in July and November 2012, and March 2013. Areas of focus include:
Proficiency Scale Development – Teams will organize standards
and learning goals into proficiency scales to assess student understanding.
Formative Assessment –The benefits of formative assessment used
during instruction will be emphasized. Teams will design and
interpret different types of formative assessments.
Standards-Based Grading and Reporting – Teams will learn how to
track student progress and assign meaningful grades, even if a
traditional grading system must still be used.
Cost: $8,000 per team of *5-7. (Includes meals and book for each participant).
Teams larger than seven: $150 for each additional team member.
*Smaller districts may want to partner to form a team.
